Venues: University of Bologna - Forlì Campus (1st year);
Partner University for about 6 months (2nd year)
Period: 2012 - 2014
Application deadline: May 21, 2012
The Master's curriculum focuses on Economics, Political Science, International Relations, Cultural Studies, Sociology and Anthropology. In addition, MIREES provides indispensable knowledge of the political, economic, and socio-cultural transitions that have taken place in certain geopolitical areas, namely the Balkans, the Baltic states, Russia/CIS and Central-Eastern Europe, taking into consideration the process of European integration and the policies of neighbouring states. The programme is thus aimed at those students with a BA in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Languages (and Slavic languages in particular), agricultural studies and cultural studies generally.
The programme is entirely in English and yields 120 ECTS.
MIREES students will spend the first year in Forlì (one of the five campuses of the University of Bologna), while in the second year a minimum of 6 months will be spent at one of the Partner Universities (the Vytautas Magnus University at Kaunas, the Corvinus University of Budapest and the St Petersburg State University). The University of Ljubljana is an associate partner that offers additional mobility opportunities for students. In particular cases, other MIREES Associated Universities in the Balkans can be selected for the mobility period.
The programme aims also at developing language skills and in this context MIREES offers courses in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Russian, Lithuanian and Slovak (Hungarian is also available in the 2nd year), as well as Italian for foreigners as an additional option. The international dimension of the programme is enhanced through student mobility, by an international faculty composed of prominent scholars of international repute, and a genuinely international student body.
The master's course prepares either for further academic studies at doctorate level, or for specific professional skills. MIREES in fact seeks to forge insightful analysts, area experts, consultants, mediators for the needs of research institutes and offices, the European Commission, international agencies, voluntary organizations and NGO’s, public administrations at different levels, managers for private companies, corporations and banks engaged in projects of investment, production, cooperation and development in East-Central Europe and the Balkans.
